Greg Elloitt

Lecturer & Senior Researcher Data Science - HZ University of Applied Sciences, Fellow - ForHumanity, AI Compliance by design

Greg Elliott is a Lecturer & Senior Researcher in Data Science at the HZ University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, focusing on the practical application of AI technologies. He is also a Fellow at ForHumanity, where he spent several years co-formulating audit criteria for the EU AI Act. He recently concluded a compliance-by-design prototype for effective risk management in live mode, and is currently working on an AI Self-Assessment Framework, both as required by the Act.

Greg's main research and teaching focus is on helping developers, deployers and users of AI to know when and when not to adopt the technology, as well as how and how not to adopt it, while ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks. He is presently co-leading a Minor in Applied AI & Ethics as well as co-developing an AI Literacy course for AI deployers and users in higher education. He is also helping to develop a new master's programme, with the working title AI Translator.

He has previously worked as an associate at CITI Ltd, (www.citi.co.uk). In addition to his extensive consultancy work, he has also led a number of business and IT-related education and training programmes, including contributions to the Lancaster University MSc in Information Management, the British Airways MBA, the Bradford University/CITI MSc in Business Process Management, and the Middlesex University/CITI MSc in Managing Major Projects & Programmes.

In total, he has more than 40 years private and public sector experience, covering a wide variety of industries, providing business and technical consultancy services to major organisations in the UK and abroad. He has a hybrid business-IT background, having undertaken various IT Architecture roles, and regularly working as the principal Design Authority on major organisational transformation programmes.
